Water Recreation

Paddle boarding is probably our favorite family water sport. We found a local kayaking cove that we can turn the kids loose to paddle on with out worrying about boats. There are three types of paddle boards. There is epoxy, inflatable and soft top.

Inflatable boards are easier to transport but require extra time for pumping and you run the risk of punctures.

Epoxy boards are made just like surf boards and while the rigidness of them makes them ideal for long distance touring that same rigidness makes transporting them more of a challange.

Soft top boards are also made like their counter part soft top surfboards but are less rigid than epoxy boards. They are easier on the feet and knees like an inflatable board and are on the less expensive side. However they do still take a bit of room to transport as well.

The kids are always asking to go fishing. We have to main types of  fishing around here. Fly fishing for the most part in the rivers and lake fishing. Each requires slightly different gear although some gear is the same for either type.

I don’t have very much experience fly fishing but since I live close to a river that has seasonal regulations on how you can fish I thought this fly fishing starter kit was interesting.

Most of the water sources near us are quite cold and if I’m being honest I’m not a fan of being cold so I choose to wear water proof pants on those cold fishing days.

Trout is one of my favorites to fish for. Fishing poles come in all shapes, sizes and price points. Just find one that is comfortable for you and have fun.

Kayaking and canoeing are not my strong suit and our kids have done it more than we have since we have paddleboards. I do believe however that both are extremely fun ways to enjoy the water.

Rigid kayaks are a little more on the pricey side and require more accommodations for transportation but they are very durable.

Inflatable kayaks are a great option if you are limited on space and they are generally  less expensive than their rigid counter part.

Canoes are similar to kayaks although the seating position and paddle are different and canoes are a bit more expensive.
